COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

This fellow Mr.John Chien is very annoying.

I think he works (I hope he works!) in Siemens. Let us all complain to the system administrator of Siemens so that his access to E-mail and Internet is removed... Other wise he soon is going to become a Psychic case.

In case you want to complain please send your E-mails to this address

root@swpc.siemens.com

Hope this works and we can have some meaningful discussions.

If you had a small fraction of Chien's experience you too may be capable of contributing a little something useful to this forum.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

Why?

I am using the forum almost every day. It is very helpful and useful and I have learned a lot from you all. I will never refuse to read any message. Thank you, John, for your contribution. Maybe, you'd better to give your opinion more clearly and in more details, but not some abstruse philosophy which is too difficult to understand for a CFD engineer.

Dear Unknown,

If you are so full of conviction in your distaste for my Chien, why then do you not reveal your identity?? I am a 21 year old new masters student. I have only been in this site for 1 week. I have read alot of different answers in here and I feel that everyone who makes a contribution is involved in worthwhile conversation and discussion. I have never meet, nor heard of Mr Chien,, but I do think he is an excellent contributor and I feel perhaps we should all email hotmail to have Unknown removed!!! Jack.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

OK so John is a bit wonky on a few things and waffles more than a bit sometimes. However, he has both professional experience and a willingness to contribute. People reading this forum can learn nothing unless there are contributions. Statements do not have to be correct to be useful if they provoke thought and discussion. If you disagree with something then post a response saying why. Most people are perfectly willing to take criticism on board if you are not aggressive and trigger an emotional/defensive response.

Your suggestion is a very poor one in my opinion and I would be surprised and disappointed if someone posts a response supporting it.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

I couldn't help writing a few words about John Chien.

He is an extremely valuable contributor to this discussion forum, but exclusively for new comers in the CFD community which have little experience in that field. Apart from its extremely patronizing way of writing, his broad knowledge in many areas makes him very useful to handle the basis and even quite advanced features of a problem.

But, one may easily admit that for very specific questions which are mainly addressed to quite specialised knowledge such as turbulence modelling, turbomachinery simulations, etc, the "John Chien's style" of helping is quite unefficient. You get to read about everything from philosophy to history and to knowledge that most engineers that have been working for about one year in the field would consider basic, and yet you don't get an answer to your question. Or may be you got it, but couldn't sort it out !

May be, those who feel that their question is quite advanced should entitle their mail with: Advanced: low reynolds ...!!!

So, John would make everybody happy, I think, if he could stay to the questions, be clear and more concise. It is actually a requirement for research publications !!

Actually, he is an encouraging example of living its work as a passion and be willing to share it with others.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

(1).Who are you Mister unknown? We all write down every contribution with our names. If you don't do so your message doesn't deserve to be noticed. (2). It's a principal that no personal attack takes place in any forum. If you don't agree with this policy, you may of course leave and don't join this forum any more. You may open your own forum if you like to. (3). Chien is one of the most experienced writers, and someone who writes an answer to almost every question does have the right to say something more. (4). If you really read the answers, that John posts, you can realize that he is one of the few people here who knows what is he talking about. (5).don't care about how he says but care about what he says.it seems to me that you don't know wahat we are talking about. If you don't aprecciate what John says then I am sorry for you. Go back to school. (7). I' am not insulting you. An insult is always personified. I can't insult someone with no name. ( think about Odysseus and the Cyclops, Mr. Unknown) (7). by the way it's a bad attitute to invite people to complain about him. express your own oppinion to John, but someone with no name doesn't have any oppinion. regards I. Dotsikas

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

I am surprised and disappointed about the attack on Dr. Chien. One would think that cfd users/researchers/enthusiasts/educators would have an 'allegiance' among them which would eliminate this petty bickering. This is not the playground, but hopefully a forum for the exchange of ideas across the world instantaneously - imagine what Socrates might think of this capability...

In either case, I hope Dr. Chien will not leave this forum for a few hot-headed people. 'TEAM CFD' requires all the players...

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

(1). This is nothing new. (2). I have warned you recently about the Internet war between two China recently. Internet sites got invaded and wiped out. It's war. (3). Companies also have set up firewalls on e-mail and Internet. (4). The US government also has taken this very seriously. (5). Your name can be easily put in the same format. (6). Sir, you are all getting the same message. If an experienced reader should be removed from the forum, how much chance do you have? ....The goal? I think, is to shut down the forum.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

I totally agree with the opinions expressed so far - John is an extremely valuable and experinced contributor to this forum. CFD is a very wide and complicated field covering from physical modelling such as turbulence /combustion /multiphase to numerical algorithms, from development to application. One should not expect to know everything, so any contribution to a topic should be welcomed. I quite admired John's commitment to this forum.

Chien's attitude

I really think that everybody should be allowed to post in this forum. technical issues and Encouragements are wellcome.

No criticism.

That's why for those who have not read it, it could be revealing to read the " cheers to jonas " serie of posting and tell me about John Chien's attitude !!

Is he such a great guy ? May be, but this posting made me doubt ....

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

I don't know why someone finds John annoying, I found him interesting, even when he philosophises. And for sure what this forum would be without him?

If you find some remarks annoying then don't read them, and if you are not satisfied with some answers then post a new message, etc... Nobody should take all this too seriously and no message against people should be posted here. It is about cfd and cfd-forum, not about personality.

You can say to John, I don't like your answer (or probably I don't understand it) but none should attack someone personally, this is not what this forum is all about. It is OK to make some remarks on the forum itself but not on the persons who write. There is one person here, it is you the 'unknown' guy, who is the annoying one, not John!!

You are free to read and not to read, then don't read, but for sure don't offend other people.

Patrick

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

I find chien's critical! comment's some times takes you to think about the other side. In fact i could guess what the complain posted by Mr.Unknown is all about, but the first thing i searched in the string was Mr.Chein's reply. I have been benefitted by this forum a lot, which i attribute it to people like Mr.Chein. There are several good discussion's going on let's ignore Mr. Unknown.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

hey Unknown! i don't know if you think this is an AOL chatgroup or some dejnews discussion group but here are a few things we do around here on this serious discussion group: (1) we always put our real names on our messages (we're not kiddie porn sellers, are you?) (2) even if we don't like someone we don't start a thread just to flame him/her (3) and we don't try to discredit that person outside (or inside ) the group.

eveybody here has the freedom not to read another persons responses. if john pisses you off don't read his posts. he pisses me off sometimes (we've had long battles here), sometimes i can't understand him, and sometimes i agree with him and learn something from him. i doubt seriously that you or many of the people on this group have as much experience as john (i don't).

this forun is for CFD not for flames

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

I agree with you Patrick. I have never found John annoying. On the contrary, he is an interesting person. John spends a lot of time answering everyone. This is a discussion forum in CFD. Nobody should take it seriously or make obnoxious remarks about an individual person that can be vulnerable to that individual person's reputations. Thank you.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

John C. Chien can be helpful with his background when he has the right attitude to people and to this forum.

Re: COMPLAIN ABOUT John C. Chien

(1). Would the name change to Joan C. Chien make you happier? (2). The forum deals with the electronic information presented, the person behind may not exist at all. The attitude is the perception in the reader's mind. It is hard to change. (3). And when you can hear only things you like to hear ( actually to see), what you can see is clones of yours. (4). Human race exists because it keeps changing. When a person refuses to see a different picture, he is probably ready to retire. The only purpose of this forum beside the CFD is to provide readers an opportunity to exercise his (or her) brain. It has been shown that this is one way to live longer. When a person dislike his world, most of the time, his days are numbered. This is my general observation only.
