Hello! Does anyone know the codes Elmer and/or GID? They are distributed freely from the internet. I have one question, can I create complex meshes with GID for use in my finite volume code?

Thank you

Hi,

I am using elmer. It is a finite element code. I have never used GiD, but, elmer should be able to import GiD mesh. I am using Salome to generate mesh. It can save to unv format which can be read by elmer.

GID is free packege for one month academic licence and is not opensource but it is binary. If you are mastered in GID, it may be very attractive for you, but for begineer it is not as user friendly as other packeges.

Its attractive feature is its unique enviroment: CAD + Pre/Post processor and it costomization capability so you can genetare your desired nformation (mesh and bc) and attach your binary code with it and use it as your pre-processor/processor and post processor and run all thing under GID.

Thank you for your response. Another question: Can GID create structured 3D meshes (hexaedra) or only unstructured (for 3D domains)

i only generate tetrahedral mesh with GID, but in its menobar there are structured grid and semistructured grid support too.
