Flow past an oscillating cylinder (Strouhal number)
I am doing a simulation for flow past an Oscillating Cylinder. I would like to confirm from some definitions:
If the harmonic motion of the cylinder is given by: y=A*cos(2*pi*Fe*t) 0.8<=Fe/Fo<=1.2 where: y location of cylinder center A amplitude of oscillation Fe Oscillation frequency Fo natural shedding frequency if Strouhal number St = 0.195 = Fo*D/U my question is: Does Fo will be equal to 0.195 if i used the nondimensional values of D and U (D=U=1) , or i have to calculate it using the real values of D and U ?? |
Yes, Fo=0.195 in this case

Dear Osman,
I'm working for the same case that you posted? Did you get results for your case? If yes, could you please explain more about your case and results? Many thanks in advanced. |
Dear Maimouna,
I did simulation for forced oscillation of cylinder using ANSYS Fluent. Are you looking for the forced oscillation or natural oscillation Case? |
Dear Sajjad,
I'm looking for both. I already finished the forced case, but I'm still struggling in the natural one. Looking forward to get help from any volunteers. Any idea my friend? |
Dear Maimouna,
We can share our cases for forced oscillation problem for comparison. And I am going to start about natural oscillation case and will let you know after completion. Thanks |

Dear Sajjad,
many thanks. My forced one is attached here. Looking forward to get your new case. All the best |
Dear Maimouna,
I am having problem in file attachment, Can you send me your email ID. I will send an email to you.. thanks. |
Thanks Sajjad. My email is: may78may@hotmail.com
