Multiphase reacting flow

Hello CFD gurus,

I want to simulate a reacting flow where the formation of new phases is a possibility.

Example: My domain is filled with 50% phase A and 50% phase B. At the free surface cells reactions are taking place and a phase C is formed.

Free surface shape is an important factor and it can include splashing etc.

My questions:

1) (general) What multiphase method is best suited for this type of problem?

2) (specific) Will it be possible to use the VOF method since I will most likely not have any cells filled with phase C initially (and hence making the reconstruction of the free surface difficult)?

Thanks for your input.

Sara
