Hi all,

I need your help regarding Grid generation. Let's suppose I want to generate a structured grid around an airfoil. How do you start..? I had a look at what Anderson says and have understood the part regarding transformations.. but how exactly should one start.. what should be the first steps..? I am thinking of doing this in FORTRAN or C++... but has anyone tried it with python..? I would really appreciate your help, in whatever way it be.

First you have to choose two things.Do you want to generate single block or multi block structured grid.Next you have to decide if you want the grid to be conformal and orthogonal or just orthogonal or just structured and orthogonality is not essential.Depending on that you can choose from one of the following methods.

Conformal and orthogonal : conformal mapping Ortogonal : Hyperbolic Structured not necessarily orthogonal : Algebraic , Elliptic

There are many other methods to generate the grids too and in some cases some of the methods can be orthogonal in some part and non orthogonal in other parts. Start with reading the grid generation handbook of thompson. Its available electronically.Depending on the application you are interested in you can choose the kind of method you want.
