Implicit or explicit treatment of convective terms

Hello,

I've been reading some papers and most of them tend to treat diffusive terms implicitly and convective terms explicitly.

Regarding the treatment of convective terms, may I know when is explicit or implicit treatment used? (Besides stability reason) Has it to do with the Reynolds no.?

Thanks

The main costraint is the stability. The diffusive term is the most costraining so you can reach two targets in one shot (Treating Diff -> Impl / Conv -> Expl):

Greatly relax the stability costraint and let the system of equations arised from the implicit treatment of the diffusive term remain linear.

The Re number clearly affects the stability so, the same as above.
