Commercial CFD Codes
Hello,
I have no experience with commercial CFD codes. I would be grateful if somebody can tell me briefly about the capabilities of some of these packages. I would be satisfied with some general statements. Thank You |

We made a great experience with FLUENT 5 by modelling the radiation heta transfer. FLUENT 5 uses the Discrete-Ordinate-Method (DOM) which permits to modell semi-transparent walls. We used CFX 4 also to do this task, but without the transparent wall, which made all the model much complicated.

Praveen, i think you'll find that the users who know CFD and communicate with their CFD vendors have good experiences using CFD. the ones who don't have bad experiences. also you should know what you want to do and choose the code that can do it best. also some users perticularly academic users don't get the customer support. this tends to make your productivity less because the customer support can help you a lot. i've been told by many on this group that not having customer support leads to them having to write lots of add on code. also you can see by the nuber of people asking questions about commercial codes here that it is important to have good customer service. hop that helps. cheers

I think all the commercial CFD Codes are almost the same. The sam model, the same solution method and so on. The important thing how much you can know it. That need help from the company.

Hi,
there is a great variety in commercial CFD codes and any investigation into what is available will bear this out. such variations are based on: 1. compressible/incompressible flow solution 2. pressure based/density-time marching 3. discrete formulation ie. FD,FV,FEM,spectral or combination of above 4. coupled/segrigated solver strategy for solution of "physical coupling" 5. linear solver ie. Gauss Sidel, Multigrid, SOR, etc. 6. physical models available ie. Multi-phase, radiation, turbulence, physical and thermodynamic property behaviour, combustion/reaction modelling 7...etc! Lots of permutations and combinations of the above and that is only the solver issues NOT pre and post-processors. Good Luck.................................Duane |

I think you just say what the commercial CFD COdes can do. I have used the CFX and FLUENT. All most the commercial CFD codes can do what you mentioned. |
