Radiation
 
I am looking for a comprehensive introduction for radiation used with finite volumes method. As far as I know there is a method that uses "view factors". This method is described in some papers, but in none of them as comprehensive as needed in order to be implemented in an existing code.

I am working on reactive flows with low Re number. I am using a self made code and I have convection and diffusion in my system. I want to implement radiation ( from a hot surface ) to the Fluid. I have few interest on Monte Carlo or similar methods. It would be great if any of you could help me.

There are many radiation methods can be incorporated into Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) calculations. Hottel Zone method which uses view factors and Monte Carlo methods gives more accurate result but at the expense of much CPU time which is computationally inhibitive in CFD codes. Instead, one can use finite volume and discrete ordinates method which provide acceptable accuracy with less CPU time. One can write these codes easily In Europe discrete transfer method is extensively used. It is very easy to code but its CPU greater than DOM. (Selšuk, N. & Kayakol, N., 1997, Evaluation of Discrete Ordinates Method for Radiative Transfer in Rectangular Furnaces, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer, Vol. 40, pp.213-222.)

At high temperatures radiation is dominant mode of heat transfer. only 10% of heat flow is due to convection during the high temperature furnace applications. Therefore one can neglect convective heat transfer above 500 C.

Finite volume method is developed by G. Raithby. Of course Ph.D Thesis of J. Chai may help to you.
