DES and LES meshing: tips and advice?

Hello,

I'd like to enquire if any of you can advise me on a tutorial or guidelines on grid generation for DES and LES problems. I understand the meshing is different than RANS, more complex and delicate so I turn to all the great scientists and engineers of the forum for some help!

Thank you in advance.

James

Do not mesh! Just generate a continuous substrate of solids/fluids in your 'domain'. Discretized mesh has to be eilminated. Continuum 'mesh' is the way to do it.

p/s: dont take this too seriously

I see... Is there any particular reason as to why discretized mesh is not welcome? What about the boundary layer?

Thanks

Do a RANS simulation first. Extract the integral scale and prepare your LES mesh such that your mesh size is about 1/10 of this scale. As for boundaries, refine your mesh to make y+ of order unity close to the wall (LES).
