fluiddynamics by particle codes

I would need to have some recent references about recent results in fluiddynamics codes via particle simulations. I readed some quite old books on this topics, for example Hockney, Eastwood, ("Computer simulation using particle" wich consider a lot of numerical particle scheme, but with particular reference to plasma physics and not fluiddynamics) and Potter (73), ("Computational Physics" wich consider partially a PIC codes, but only in the case of the vorticity-formulation for an uncompressible fluid. I would like to know if there are recent works on these topics. For example , are these particle methods competitive, in the senseof computational cost or accuracy, with other well known methods based on the traditional finite differenced, element, volumes discretization ?

Thanks
