Onera M6 geometry

Hi, Can anyone please tell me from where to get M6 geometry. I know there is one Plot3D formatted grid place on NPARC validation page but I want to make another unstructured grid. 1) I have tried to read this M6 Plot3D file directly in Gridgen and Gambit but it fails for both. Do I need to do some manipulations? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks, Naveed

Re: Onera M6 geometry

Naveed,

I just quickly looked at this web page:

http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/wind/val...ng/m6wing.html

and couldn't find a link to a PLOT3D grid file for the M6 wing. All the geometry I could find there was a file of airfoil coordinates.

If you can point me to the web page where you found the PLOT3D file, I can download it myself and see that the problem might be.

You might want to check which "flavor" of PLOT3D file you have for the M6. Gridgen only supports multizone 3D PLOT3D files without iblanking.

Re: Onera M6 geometry

Thanks, You need to go to Study1 or Study2 on the page you mentioned. Following is the link:

http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/wind/val.../m6wing01.html

It has the file m6wing.x.fmt which is (formatted, multi-zone, whole, three-dimensional). Kind regards, Naveed

Hi, Can anybody help me to get onera m6 wing geometry in .iges format. If any body having this plz forward to ansubramanya@gmail.com

Good news and bad news. First, I verified that m6wing.x.fmt imports into Pointwise w/o incident. But, oddly, the same file generates an error in Gridgen. That incident has been logged, but I also created a new version of the PLOT3D (by exporting from Pointwise) that can be imported in Gridgen OK. Let me know if you want it (5.6 MB zipped).

Does anybody have pointwise structered C-H mesh file for Onera M6 wing?
I want to see in detail the mesh around wing tips area.

Would you also have this geometry with a sharp trailing edge?

Machdiamond December 4, 2013 08:20

I don't because it is not needed for the CFD tools I am using, but I'll be happy to do this quickly.

Is there a consensus in the CFD community on how this should be done? Rotating the top and bottom airfoil curves around the leading edge would not be recommended because of the resulting change to the t/c ratio, however minor. Basically you don't want to touch the front 75% part of the airfoil, so my preference would be to progressively nudge the last 25% chord of the upper and lower curves closer together until the upper and lower trailing edges meet at mid-point.

Would that work for you or do you recommend another technique?
