NextLimit Xflow

Does anyone know anything concrete about this CFD software?

http://www.nextlimit.com/xflow/

It seems to be a beefed up version of realflow for science/engineering use, but there's no detail on whether its currently available, how much a license might cost and so forth.

Hi,
Xflow is currently available and the license cost about 40.000 to 60.000 Euro. Is a little bit expensive. :D

Kevin De Smet August 6, 2011 05:58

Oh I get it! so the price-tag is what makes this MSC software :p

Saket.Chaudhary August 25, 2011 11:33

XFlow price differs form the lease and perpetual license.
Parallel licenses are also available for XFlow. Similar licenses for other commercial code will show that XFlow price is very competitive.

@ Med: Not sure if you have a formal proposal from MSC, this price would include parallel license.

JBeilke August 25, 2011 14:09

If you call a price competitive which is about 3 times the price of CCM+ then I don't know ...

Saket.Chaudhary August 25, 2011 14:24

Hey Joern,

I assume you get parallel capability in that.

Saket

JBeilke August 25, 2011 15:21

But I also get a parallel ccm+ license for 20.000 Euro.

As a sidenote from somebody not working with commercial codes: very interesting and impressive to hear how much a commercial licence costs... Maybe we should slap a nice GUI on our code and sell it as well :)

Saket.Chaudhary August 25, 2011 15:54

Annual lease you are talking about? CCM+ is a good tool and looks like you are heavily invested in it in terms of experience and $$.
I am more interested in talking about how technology can help the users solve problems which otherwise would be difficult and time consuming.
As with any technology there is innovation and disruptive technology, It helps to keep an open mind and see if there is some thing that shows that there is a better way.

But don't forget to add pre- and postprocessing for real world problems. This is usually the most time consuming and tricky part :p

Plus user-friendly documentation and support... Ok, I get the point, I give up and return to debugging our Fortran Code by brooding over the memory dump in a hex editor ;)

Saket.Chaudhary August 25, 2011 16:10

:) Spoken like somebody who has done a lot of hammering on pre processing geometry and meshing. I have done that myself.
Preprocessing certainly takes lot of time, some companies talk in training that meshing will take your 70% of the time in simulation. I agree with you that the total time for simulation is the time from the CAD model to results post processing.
