I'm currently simulating heat transfer through an air gap between a stator and rotor when the residuals randomly dropped sharply, pictured below. Any ideas why this happnened? Not that I'm complaining...

I am not sure if you are monitoring any values but my guess is that the physical quantities have reach steady state. Once these values reach an 'equilibrium' then you will see a sharp decrease in the residuals because the gradients are approaching a minimum.
