Can someone please explain how the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) assists in vehicle design?

There are many aspects in which CFD assists in vehicle design. The Most obvisous CAE model accounts for the drag of the vechile. This is due to both pressure and shear forces on the surface. Other aspects to take into account include intake and exhaust pressure losses, engine combustion, heat exchanger cooling potential, Cab heating and cooling, etc. These models take account not just momentum, but also energy. CFD leads to critical decisions for improvements towards performance and fuel economy.

Use of computational fluid dynamics is to study the flow of air over the outside of the vehicle in order to minimize drag, noise, etc... It can be used wherever fluid is on the move, so it is of use in designing better water pumps and cooling fans, improving the functioning of the radiator and A/C condenser and thus along.
