AMD Opteron 280 vs X2 6400+ vs Intel E6750?

Hi,

For CFD calculation, what will be the differences among these 3 CPUs:

AMD Opteron 280: 3 GHz, ~$300 AMD X2 6400+: 3.2 GHz, ~170 Intel Core 2 Duo E6750: 2.67 GHz, ~280

Similar qns have been asked b4 and it seems that it's hard to give a good ans... there's too much factors to consider.

Hi, CF,

Thanks for the reply.

I did some search and found that, E6750 is better than AMD 6000+ in a lot of areas. Hence, I might consider Intel E6850. However, I am just curious about Opteron 280. This is a so call server chip. Using 940 socket (old?), almost twice more expensive than 6400+. 940 Motherboard will be more expensive too, plus only using PC3200 memory. Is it worth it to get Opteron 280 for CFD job?
