Solvers with "Deterministic Stress" modeling???
Colleagues... I would like to know which commercially available CFD solvers now, or within the next 1-2 years, will provide the capability to compute deterministic stresses resulting from flow field unsteadiness. This would be used, for instance, in a staged turbine aero/heat transfer gas path evaluation. My understanding is Numeca has deterministic stress modeling now, Fluent and CFX do not, and I do not know about Star-CD. Can someone verify and/or correct me concerning this? Thank You!

STAR-CD has full stress modelling, I think there are a lot publications etc on their website

STAR-CD does NOT have deterministic stress modelling. It is solid stress modelling, something completely different.

Deterministic stresses are analagous to Reynolds stresses. The latter appear in the momentum equation when you average out the unsteadiness of turbulence, the former appear when you average out the "deterministic" unsteadiness due to periodic phenomena like blade motion. There's a closure problem though, so a model is needed to determine these stresses.

Janes, Richard, Thank you both! Richard is correct in his description of deterministic stresses. So far, of the "comercial solvers", it seems only Numeca has this capability. Fluent, CFX, Tascflow, Star-Cd do not. Anyone have additional insights or information? Thank you all. I will be gone now till after the holidays.
