interl core 2 duo-quad

Hello.

I am writing my own CFD code in fortran and I have noticed that when it runs on a intel core 2 duo processor, only the 50% of the CPU is used. My question is if I use an intel core 2 quad processor, which percentage of the CPU will be used then. Again 50% or 25%?

Therefore, is it better to have an intel core 2 duo at 3 Ghz or an intel core 2 quad processor at 2.4 Ghz? With which processor will I have the best performance. All the other parts (memory, hard disk) are the same for both systems.

Thank you in advance

If u plan to parallelise ur code, then u should opt for a quad core. if not, the best is the machine with more GHz, cuz u will only use one core...
