Batch job
After submitting a batch job on the SGI machine, the job gets killed as I close the window. I remember once there was a posting on this issue and solutions were suggested. I don't remember that now. Will appreciate your suggestions to get rid of this problem. Thanks.

Re: Batch job
I don't remember the detail for the SGI but you want to run your job in the background. Try executing your job using "jobname &". Or just don't close the window (which won't work if you have to share the machine with others.

Re: Batch job
Thanks. Actually that's the way I do it (i.e. jobname &). Any other thoughts that the batch job may keep going after closing the window or even logging off?

Re: Batch job
This is so not the way you SHOULD do it, but what I do is submit the job from a VNC session running on the cluster. That way when you close the window it kill the process, just closes your VNC connection.
The best thing you could do would be to install a queuing system that submitted your jobs for you. |
Re: Batch job
sorry that should read "That way when you close the window it DOES NOT kill the process, just closes your VNC connection."

Re: Batch job
Do you launch the job with nohup ?

Re: Batch job
Thanks Topea, Kyle, and ag. It works with nohup (nohup execute &).
