Another way to get some info is to look for review articles on CFD. See for example the journal Progress in Aerospace Sciences.

I think an another way is to read Journal Of Computational Physics. CFD is not only an Aerospace problem...
For a book I recommend Ferziger & Peric which wrote a very relevant book. |

You probably should look at
"The Emergence of Numerical Weather Prediction: Richardson's Dream" by P. Lynch (Cambridge University Press). since it contains the history up to and including the first CFD calculation. |

The most influential group in the early days of CFD was almost certainly the T3 group at Los Alamos:
