Hi,

I will need to simulate a synthetic jet. I am actually interested in the temperature of the plate it will impinge on. Is it possible to simulate a periodically reoccuring unsteady problem in a steady way ( using RANS instead of URANS)? I see some problems, especially as the syn jet alters the boundary layer, but maybe someone knows some literature about this topic?

kind regards,
hebeldebel

Depending on the energy equilibrium, what you can solve is the "statistically" steady state of your problem with RANS.

FMDenaro, thanks for your answer, if I get it correct you mean averaging the temperature in the unsteady simulation over several periods, right?

yes, if you have a DNS solution then you need to do the time-averaging whereas if you solve RANS, the resulting solution is by itself a time-averaged one
