CFD of two phase flows
 

I would like to ask your opinion on the state of the art in two phase CFD simulations of industrial systems.

What I am interested in is understanding if two phase (gas-liquid) CFD has reached the point where it can be applied to carry out components design (therefore having runtimes up to a couple of days at most for simulations in geometries of industrial interest) or if due to computational intensity its use is confined to the final analysis of a very limited number of options.

I am aware that the answer depends on the type of machine on which such simulations have to be run. As a possible comparison, you can consider that the company for which I work has several clusters that allow runtimes of about 4 hours for a complete turbocompressor architecture.

Furthermore, the answer will depend on the type of approach used, therefore feel free to argument your aswer distinguishing between different methodologies.

If the answer to the first question is positive (i.e. multiphase CFD can be used for design purposes), I would like to hear a few comments about the various softwares used for such simulations.
