Mesh generation software is needed

Hi! everyone:

Our group hopes to purchase a mesh generation software, which can generate tetrahedron elements(3D mesh), and can output the mesh data(nodes number, element number,x and y coordinates). The mesh properties can be controled as one needed by adapting to the geometries and other requirement. Only the mesh generator, no CFD package is needed. Which one is the best? Price? Thanks in advance.

Re: Mesh generation software is needed

Ciao,

I have the same problem so I also posted to this list. What I have learned so far is that there is a web page with alot information on meshing software. The web-page is

http://www-users.informatik.rwth-aac.../software.html

I will have a closer look at NETGEN and GRUMMP. Both softwares are free. For NETGEN you will have to sign a licence agreement first.

As I am interested in the same, please let my know, I you have found some new. I would like to learn also from your experience.

Ciao Heinz

Check out CFD-GEOM CFDRC's Interactive 3D Geometry & Mesh Generation Software (unstructured, structured, mixed-element meshes). This page is in the process of being updated with the latest information.

Have a look at ICEM-Teta. Once you have a geometrie-surface either from STL, IGES or their own included CAD-Tool the meshing is nearly automatic.

You dont need to generate a surface mesh at the beginning! , there are prism-layers genreated at walls (if you want) ...

There is a very nice evaluation of commercial mesh generations available on the web - just click on "Resources" and then "Topics" above and locate the "Mesh Generation" section. There are only a few links there and one of them is to the evaluation. Good luck!

Hi,

This may be a onsided view as I work for ICEM CFD but you may wish to look at ICEM HEXA and TETRA

http://www.icemcfd.com

Both modules allow you to recompute a grid automatically to match a change in geometry. If you require more info then let me know and I will get our nearest office to send you some more detailed info

regards

Dave

sorry, do you mean that it is possible to import a .stl or igs or step file mesh the surface with triangular elements and then to trasform in tetra solid element? are there tools to fix the previous triangular mesh?

I dial with software like moldflow or tmconcept fabest or simpoe, all about molding ijection plastic
thank

somebody has any information about go-mesh?

Why do you need an extra package for meshing. There should be something within moldflow.

Please note that the original topic is about 13 years old.

because I have done a application but until now I import mesh from moldflow or other software. so I am loking for something to be independent.

sorry I didn't look after date but maybe this topic could still be alive, or not?

First you should describe what type of mesh you need:
  • hex, tet or polys
  • sublayer at the walls
  • meshing of multiple bodies for conjugate heat transfer
  • from where are you coming with the geometry and what formats do you have available for meshing
  • do you need cad cleanup as well or are your geometries already clean
Harpoon might be an option.

1) shell tri and tetra
2) sublayer? do you mean hibryd mesh with internal tetra and prisma closed the wall?
3)it could be interesting maybe in the future for insert part
4) if we talk about simpoe (the sofware tha I am using now that it is a competitor of moldflow) the important think is a clean up of the model and I would like to dial with .igs or .step. if we talk of my personal application I would like to import a .stl (open because it is a midplane approch) file until now.
5)yes a clean up is always interesting for simpoe or any other software and also for my personal application

thank for the link I will try
