Grid Generation Forum
 

Folks, I know this has come up before but...

With a few exceptions we all need to build grids before we can run CFD. Many of us are using third party tools; Gridgen, Gridpro, ICEM-CFD etc. I have yet to find any forums where meshing issues are discussed

I would like to see at least a meshing forum, perhaps even several tool based ones.

Any thoughts?

Excellent idea Andy. I would also like to see such forums. cfd-online admin please take note of our request.

This main forum covers also meshing issues. A forum needs a certain number of visitors to stay alive. If we would split up this forum into many sub-topics each sub-forum would probably get to few visitors and they would probably thereby soon self-die. This main forum does not have enough traffic to warrant a split into sub-topics. It isn't difficult to follow a grid generation topic here. Besides, this main forum is followed by many grid generation gurus. For example, you mentioned Gridgen and we frequently see posts here by John Chawner, the president of Pointwise and one of the originators of the Gridgen code.

If that argument holds true (which I believe it does/should)why are there still Phoenics and Numeca Forums? They hardly get any traffic, and are fairly low usage "niche" codes...

was going to say the same thing. It should be at least tested. I like the concept of a general meshing forum as well.

Good question. Taking away something that people are used to have is something that we should perhaps be a bit careful to do, but perhaps it is time to soon start removing unused forums.

I agree - a grid generation forum is great idea especially given it's importance in obtaining accurate CFD results.

As for the lack of support, I agree with Jim.

Jonas - any hope for this?

Oh Yeah, A separate grid generation forum would be really helpful. I have tens of question to post:)
