Kolmogeru scale

Hi all.

I've been reading something about the scales in turbulent flow, and really can't get a handle on it. Why should we define scales in flow? Why is Kolmogeru scale the smallest scales in a turbulent flow and what are the largest scales? Is there any subjects in this forum or any book I can refer to?

Thank you

Kind Regards

Re: Kolmogeru scale

The size of the smaller scales is determined by the size below which viscous dissipation starts to become important, ie. eddies are dissipated below this scale (ie. the Kolmogorov scale). The larger scales are of the order of the flow scale, e.g. diameter of a cilinder placed in uniform flow.

A good reference would be "turbulence modelling for CFD", by Wilcox.
