Hi all

I have designed a series of acoustic louvers and I want to run a series of simulations before I send them to a laboratory to be tested. I am mostly interested to find the pressure drop caused by each louver for 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 m/s face velocity (I am not interested in the acoustic performance at this point). Since I know the face velocity (will be a boundary condition) and density (1.2kg/m^3), after the pressure drop is calculated I can also find a value for K.

What I want to know is:

1. Can I run a 2D simulation across the louver profile (as shown in the attachments) in order to increase my mesh density while saving computational resources (probably use adaptive mesh?), or it will compromise my result accuracy and I should run a 3D simulation.

2. How should my wind tunnel be modeled? I have attached two images showing two different configurations. My thought is that if I was simulating a perforated plate I would use the configuration on the Left hand image, but since I am using a louver that deflects the air upward should I use a configuration right the one on the Righ Hand image?

I will be using Solidworks flow simulation 2015 (FloEFD) to solve.

Anyone? I would really appreciate an opinion from someone with more experience in CFD
