Effect of recession on CFD JOBS

Dear friends anybody have any idea how the current economic recession has affected CFD jobs especially Automotive.

Re: Effect of recession on CFD JOBS

CFD is an essential part of the automotive product development process. While automotive manufacturers can afford to reduce production, they can't afford to ease up on future product development, otherwise they'd be signing their own death warrants.

In mature industries CFD is also recognized for its ability to cut costs, by reducing the amount physical testing required to bring a model into production.

While I agree with what you are saying, you're making the assumption that Senior Management is looking beyond the next quarter. I'm not sure that's a good assumption.

Good luck to us all.

I thought GM HAD given up on product development already.

I know our business has not been affected at Bosch. We are actually hiring in the CFD R&D area. Does anyone know anyone looking?

Joe.

GM are fools then. Any smart business should know that standing still on the R&D side during a downturn is essentially going backwards.

Companies with foresight will continue their R&D programmes, albeit with some cuts in funding. I'd imagine that CFD jobs will come along at much the same frequency as in previous years.

Re: Effect of recession on CFD JOBS

R&D for automotive is not same as R&D in other growing industries. For years, there has been a surplus of automotive brands and products already in the world and further higher surplus in designs-in-the-pipeline in automotive companies throughout the world so it makes more sense to refine or cross-breed products across companies through joint-ventures or merging than to mindlessly self-explore new design ideas or reinvent new wheels which may or may not appeal to market at the first place. With current situation and short-term forecast, market will become more conservative so, to dump more products in the market serves to justify nothing in business sense. Politics, boycotts, wars surely can swerve the situation to either left or right though. But this is only a phase, max of 5 years. 5 years could be too long or too short depends on which company, which country, which region, which culture, which politics. My 2 cents. :)

i believe that this is not a simple theme....

the friend here has a good idea on the subject. it depence from many parameters, which company, which country, which region, which culture, which politics, some people afraid to put money on R&D someother believe that this is a good opoortunity to be the first in the market, i believe this is nothing to do with the kind of company ayomotive or defense, for our company the job went 300 % up during the last 6 months, of course the automotive has many problems but i believe thes eproblems are not only because of economics, we produce more and more cars for the same amount of people..... we can not change the cars like tshirts..... one day we will have more cars than toothbruch.. the companies must understand that the big number on productions has also big head pain.... take a look the ferrari and the other small companies... they still growning, also the small production monufactures,. because they do not have costes due to advertizing etc..

Sorry for diging up an old post.
I am however currently researching the job market in CFD.
Now finishing my PhD in LES of multiphase reacting flows in HSDI engines.
Are there still vacancies at Bosch, if so could you provide me with more details?
Thanks.
