Bidirectional stresses?? -- CFD Online Discussion Forums

Francisco Saldarriaga Guest Posts: n/a	Question: In solid mechanics, I have always heard about bidirectional stresses which I identify as stresses in two directions, Could anyone share some light how it works in a fluid? I understand it as a deformation changing one element lets say from square to romboid as a force is applied. Is this parallel scenario real?
