Default Metrics of Transformation at the cell faces?

Hi there:

I control volume approach, when the gov. equations are transformed to computational domain, the metrics are needed at the cell faces. If we are just storing the coordinates of cell centers, how is it possible to evaluate the metrices at the cell faces?

In other words, is there any way if I do NOT want to take the following approach:

(xi_x)_(i+1/2)=1/2( (xi_x)_(i) + (xi_x)_(i+1) )

i.e. I am looking for a way to directly evaluate (xi_x)_(i+1/2) weithout any interpolation between nodes i and i+1

THanks
