Best CFD for Power Plants?
 
Hello all,

I hope, someone can help me. I´ve to check out a good program to calculate the flow in burners (coal, gas and oil) and flue gas (also in superheaters, demisters, Desulfuration and DeNOx-catalysts). The software shall be distributed in Germany. By the while, I think it will be one of the both FLUENT or AEA T.CFX.

1) Have someone good or bad experiences with this tools? Please tell me. 2) Is there another package, which can be well-used to solve my problems? 3) What platform do you prefer? Whow big shall the memory be?

I also need a good mesh-creator and visualise-tool if is not brought by the package.

Hello,

May I recommend you take a look at ICEM CFD for your mesh generation needs. It supports over 100 solvers, including Fluent and CFX. Both HEX and TET (with or without PRISMS) can be generated in a fraction of the time traditionally required.

STAR-CD is one of the best choices for solving your issue. I have had some application of STAR-CD to furnace combustion using every type of fuels, such as natural gas, kerosene and bituminus coal. It is quite enough for us to evaluate furnace performance. In the case of coal combustion, STAR-CD has informed us of burnout profiles, the residence time of each particle sizes, NOx emission, and others. If you have reaction parameters regarding NOx reduction mechanism on the catalyst, you may also solve issues about DeNOx-catalysts. But I have no chance to try it. In terms of removing NOx from flue gas, another NOx reduction process, which is using mist of ammonia, is popular in JAPAN.
