About Nicolson

Hi,all of us studied Crank-Nicolson's method. I heard somewhere that P. Nicolson was a woman. Is this a truth?

you mean NICHOLSON

Nicholson, not Nicolson

Re: you mean NICHOLSON

I think Nicolson is the right spelling. At least in my books it is written this way. ;)

Re: About Nicolson

look for the original paper describing the method and it might have Nicholson's full name. Tannehill, Anderson, and Pletcher's CFD book should have the original reference

Re: About Nicolson

Our Maths Prof here gave me an anecdote regarding Nicolson once. He was speaking to someone, name escapes me, about numerical methods, and was told in no uncertain terms that the name was nicolson, No H. He went on to say that the guy he was speaking to married Nicolson.

Therein lies another answer. It seems 'No H' is indeed a Woman!
