I'd recommend the web site Aeronautics Learning Laboratory for Science, Technology and Research provided by the Allstar Network, NASA. It is a very nice educational site with a lot of info on the history and theory of flight.

I suggest the book by Dr. J.D.Anderson Jr. : Introduction to Flight. It's a good book to start with.
