FREE SURFACE TRACING USING MARKER PARTICLES!!???
 

HI.. all u CFD gods!! i want to trace the free surface profile after doing my numerical computations.. now the best and the easiest way according to the books is the placement of massless particles called MARKERS and using the computed velocity profile to get the position. the problem is .. HOW EXACTLY DO I MOVE MY MARKERS?? and WHAT ARE THE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS THAT I HAVE TO SATISFY?? i would be more than glad if somebody could enlighten me on this.. thanks for all and regards..and keep THE GOOD WORK.:) luv err.. yep.. lost_soul

Hi friend,

The first question is simple. In fact, most people use the Euler method (for ODE). Perhaps, you want to use some Runge-Kutta of the high order. The second question, in my personal opion, is not well posed, that is, the ODE not need of boundary conditions.

A good book that may help you is

"Numerical Modeling of Water Waves" by Charles L. Mader, Los Alamos Series in Basic and Applied Sciences, University of California Press, 1988 (ISBN 0-520-06269-8).

The author describes a model used for tsunami tracking using the marker and cell method. The book also contains Fortran codes of the model.
