Default Finite Volume midplane algorithms

Hello everybody,

I work with a 2D code for the simulation of cavity filling with plastics and I would like to know how the finit element packages do to simulate midplane geometries. Could someone point me to a reference about how to do this with finite elements or finite volumes? I kwon finite elements do a coordinate tranformation by multiplying the element stiffness matrix by its jacobian, before mounting the whole domain stiffness matrix. But what about the finite volume method?
