Read the Mesh data from Gambit

Hi,

Does anyone know how could I read the mesh data generated by Gambit and use it in my own solver?

Thanks for your attentions!

David

If your code is based on unstructured meshes, the generic solver option could be used.

My solver is based on structured grid. By using generic solver option, I can only read the mesh data into other commercial code. And actually I want to know how to read the mesh data into my own solver.

Fluent solver( I think higher than version 5) has an option to export tecplot or other data format.

The procedure is as follow.

Step 1 : generate mesh using Gambit with fluent solver option

Step 2 : Read in the case data file from the fluent GUI.

Step3 : Write(export) data file in any other format which you are familar with.

You can try try, I believe you will succeed in that way.

Re: Read the Mesh data from Gambit

I am sorry that the message I posted before is still for unstructured meshes. Gambit has some solver options but all the solvers except Fluent 4 are unstructured solvers.

So I think you can use Fluent 4 option. But before using that, you should know Fluent 4 uses single-block with wall-blockage.

If your solver is based on multi-block I think it is very difficult to use gmabit.

Another way is to use Geo-mesh.

Sorry about the wrong comments.

Hi Before you can use the mesh generated via gambit in your own solver you will need to know how gambit writes out the msh, grd file so that they can be tweaked and read into your own solver. Your best bet is probally to read the manual assocaited with such. As I have done more or less the same in relation to post processed data in order to convert it into another format.

Hi,

Thanks for all your comments. My solver is based on multiblock structured grid. And the only tool I could use in my lab is Gambit. So I need help in reading the data. Anyone has other suggestion?
