Dear friends,

We are using SGI ORIGIN 2000 system(1G RAM). When I tried to compile a fortran code using f77(f90), following error occured: Warning: Stack frame size(258100912) larger than system limit(67108864). But the code could run on my PC(128M RAM). How can I change the system stack frame size limit? Can I download reference book on f77 from internet? Thanks.

Jian,

I have received a similar error in the past when compiling using the SVS or Absoft compilers on my PC. It occurred when I increased the size of my common blocks in a working code.

The solution is to increase the stack size. This is done by specifying a parameter on the command line for your compiler. You'll need to check the help files for your compiler for the details.

Hope this works for you.

on an SGI the command limit will give you the default values of some parameters such as stacksize, filesize, etc you can try limit stacksize unlimited that will increase stacksize to its max

If still need further documentation about f77 and are using the MIPSpro compiler you may look at http://techpubs.sgi.com/library/. But as P. already pointed out the compiler most probably conflicts with the system ressources limit.
