Water flow into boat

Being a recreational fisherman, I have the following question. How much water would flow (gal per second) into a boat, if it had a 1" square hole in the bottom and the bottom is 18" under water? What I'm trying to do is to size bilge pump capacity. Could you provide the formula and constants that determine the results. Thank you in advance.

Re: Water flow into boat

For small appertures :

Volume flow rate = Cd x A x sqrt(2 x g x H)

Cd : discharge co-eff (about 0.6 for water through a sharp edged hole)

A : hole area g : 9.8 ms-2 H : height of water

Rich, thanks for responding. I have question about the constant "g", what is it, what are the units? Thanks
