(1). In general, for streamlined body, the flow around the body will merge together smoothly at the trailing edge and into the wake. The pressure distribution will be smooth there. (2). This type of shape will be very long and thus not very practical, although in the past, it has been used for road vehicle. (3). The most common road vehicle has truncated rear end, from the trunk lid on, there will be a large flow separation bubble behind the vehicle. (4). If one plot the static pressure along the surface of the vehicle, the pressure will drop around the rear end of the car trunk lid and reach a constant pressure level in the separated flow region (or bubble). In other words, the pressure around the rear bumper will have a pressure which is lower than the local free stream. (which is typical of the flow separation bubble) (5). This static pressure, which is at the base of the body (read end) is normally given a neame as "base pressure".
