I am looking for books, not papers.

I've search almost every CFD books in the library, but surprisely none mentiones about the semi-Lagrangian method.

(1). As a first step, try to type "book semi-lagrangian method" into a web search engine, such as yahoo, and you should get back the information you need. (I just did, now it is your turn.)

Maybe I do not make myself clear.

Of course I try to search Internet before posting an request. If I want to search "papers", I will first try Scientific Citiation Index or ResearchIdex, and then Internet for high citation number papers. This often gives satisfactory result.

However, this is different when I want to find a "book". According to myy experience, the search engine is often incapable of returning useful result with the keywords like "book and XXX", since high occurrence the word "book" in many places, a page is veryly to contain the both "book" and "XXX" but they are complete unrelated.

There is another reason for this post. Most search result of "semi-Lagrangian" are specific materials of meteorology and weather forecast, but what I want is a funamental introduction book.

BTW, I already had Durran's book (Numerical methods for wave equations in geophysical fluid dynamics), and I am looking for other books.

(1). There are two ways to do the search, (a). ask the librarian to look for "books" published on "semi-lagrangian method". (b). When you first saw the "semi-lagrangian method", it must be either in a paper or a book. From there, you can trace back the source of the method. (2). I think the method is probably not widely used in CFD, other than weather related forcast. I am not familiar with the method myself.

One book you may want to consider is "Chebyshev and Fourier Spectral Methods" by John Philip Boyd (J.P. Boyd). You will want the second edition, as published by Dover Publishing. Chapter 14 gives at least some introduction to the method. The only problem is that the book was originally scheduled to be published in 1998, but due to internal problems at Dover Publishing, it has been, and still is, ready to be published "in the near future" as the unhelpful telephone sales representative routinely informs me. Luck is with us however, as John is a professor at the U. of Michigan, and has the following home page... http://www-personal.engin.umich.edu/~jpboyd/ From there, you can click to the online PDF format of the book, and download it, or read it from the site. Make sure yor computer has at least 128 Mb of memory, and the most current Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. Good luck. Tom

Check out the book "Chebbyshev and Fourier Spectral Methods" by John Philip Boyd (J.P. Boyd), a professor at the U. of Michigan. You will want the second edition as published by Dover. It was orginally scheduled to be published in 1998, but, due to internal problems at Dover, has actually yet to be released. Luck is on your side however. Simply go to the Google search engine (google.com), and type in J P Boyd , then, click on the link to his personal home page at the U. of Michigan. There, on his web site is a downloadable version of the book in PDF format. Make sure your computer has 128 Mb of memory and the most current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader available. Check out chapter 14, where he gives an introduction to the topic of semilagrangian methods. Hope this helps. Tom
