hi

I would like to know good books to start with fluid structure interaction problems : ALE, moving mesh,...

thanks by advance.

"COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS WITH MOVING BOUNDARIES" Wei Shyy, H.S. Udaykumar, Madhukar M.Rao, Richard W.Smith

' Introduction to "An Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian Computing Method for All Flow Speeds" ' J. Computational Physics 135, 198-202(1997)

'Computational Methods for Transient Analysis' edited by T.Belytschko and T.J.R. Hughes ch.10 ALE FEM J. Donea.

ALE f.e. computations of fluid-structure interaction problems, Takashi Nomura, Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering 112 (1994) 291-308.

What about considering 'Immersed boundary method ' ?

could u tell me a little more about "immersed boundary method" ? u seem to be one partisan of this method...

and internet ressources about fluid structure interaction ?

thank u Charles.

I'm PhD candidate. The topic of my thesis is LES of flow around square cylinder.

One of current CFD trend is LES. Now I just finised turbulence intensity contours around cylinder surface. Comparing the results with the experimental results(Fig.5(a)) of Lyn and Rodi's paper, there is some discrepancy. But the phase averaged streamwise velocity and velocity gradient are somewhat reasonable range. At current stage, the biggest and serious problem is how to treat wall boundary condition. Due to an inaccurate wall model, there is some discrepancy between my calculation and Lyn and Rodi's data. One of PhD student in my group did the same experimental test and I'll use the data to compare. Based on phase averaged streamlines of velocity vectors, two experiments show somewhat different results.

The reason I mention above is that one of the current trend is LES. Some groups doing FSI(Fluid Structure Interaction) using IBM(immersed boundary method) and LES as turbulence model. Depends on your structure, numerical scheme could be changed but the main concept is the same. The followings are articles of IBM. I can not afford time to finish this part. After finishing my degree, I'll start on this part. So now I'm doing the analysis of turbulent flow around fixed cylinder.
