Default Using CFD to predict noise generation

I am beginning to use CFD for analyses of flow through valves, some of which have tortuous pathes. In addition to the normal information such as flow patterns, pressure drops, etc., I am interested in the noise generated by the flow including the frequency spectrum. Are there any ways to get this information from a CFD analysis? Are there any programs better than others for getting this information?

Thank you,

Alan H. Glenn

If you collected enough time-accurate data (pressure, density, velocity) on the solid surface or on a closed surface surrounding whatever surface you're simulating, you can write a little post-processing code that uses the so-called Ffowcs Williams - Hawkings equation to compute at any observer location the sound history. Just type Ffowcs Williams - Hawkings on Google, and you will find much more info.

You should check out RADIOSS-CFD. Our website www.mcube.fr gives numerous examples of Computational Aero-Acoustic (CAA) applications under the M-Explicit section.

Dimitri
