How to control the boundedness of volume fraction?

I am using roe scheme coupled water volume fraction to calculate the free surface problem. But after interation, the water volume fraction is outside of the physical boundedness.I just give it greater than 0 and less than 1,is it right?Hirt has mentioned a donor and acceptor method. What about other ways to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!

A paper uses roe +MUSCL + artificial compressibility + VOF idea is: Pan D and Chang C-H. The capturing of free surfaces in incompressible multifluid flows, Int J Num. Meth. Fluids, Vol.33, pp. 203.
