Hi guys,

What would you guys know of CFD activity in universities in Brazil? Where courses are taught? Where are the PhD programmes and waht are they? Is there some CFD related to the environment (pollution, hydraulics, chemical reactions) and risk and safety?

I have found some CFD activity at PU Rio and at UFRGS. Would anyone be able to tell me?

Thanks, Bobby

The man that is considered the main brazilian researcher in CFD is Clovis Maliska, from the federal university of Florianopolis, Santa Catarina (UFSC). His lab is involved in many researches about pollution dispersion and environmental protection. His web page is www.sinmec.ufsc.br, but I was unable to find his e-mail.

Other brazilian researcher that is very active in the area of cfd is Julio Meneghini, from the University of Sao Paulo (USP). His main fields of research are fluid-structure interaction , flow-induced vibration and aircraft aerodynamics. His e-mail is jmeneg@usp.br.

If I were you, I would try Florianopolis or the UFRGS. Florianopolis is a particularly beautiful city, with wonderfull beaches, and is one of the best cities to live in Brazil.

I would avoid cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Sao Paulo is a mess, plenty of traffic jams and is violent. In Rio de Janeiro you have a situation that is aproaching the limits of a civil war. The drug dealers fight the police with automatic assault rifles and grenades.
