Help! Code for radiative heat transfer

I plan to simulate radiative heat transfer with dicrete ordinate method(two dimensional cylinder ordinate).Where can i get a code for reference? Thanks a lot!!!

Re: Help! Code for radiative heat transfer

I am not aware of available (commercial or free) general radiation code. We developed our own code (A. Fiterman, R. Ben-Zvi,. and A. Kribus, DOTS: Pseudo-Time-Stepping solution of the Discrete-Ordinate Equations, Numerical Heat Transfer, Part B, Vol. 35 No. 2, pp. 163-183, 1999).

If you just wish to find test cases for validation - there are plenty in the literature (including the above paper and references therein).

Re: Help! Code for radiative heat transfer

Hi, I developed DOM(discrete ordinate model) for cylindrical enclosures during my PhD thesis. DOM is a well documented radiation model. You can develop your own code easily.(Perhaps angular integration of DOM for cylindrical enclosures is a little bit complicated compared to that of DOM for rectangular ones.) Then, I advice you test your own code on these the two test cases. Firt one is the real application. The predictions are compared with the experimental values. and the second one is the simplified furnace case. The predictions are compared with exact solution. DOM agrees well with both experimental and exact solutions using very short CPU times. S4 approximation is accurate enough for cylindrical applications. Therefore, it is recommended for CFD applications.
