What hardware configuration should be preferred?

Hello All! I am planning to use CFX4 for some middle class problems (cell number less than 500.000). And for that purpose I am planninf to upgrade my PC. Unforunately due to budget limits it will be a PC platform with 1 proc. So what should I consider first: AMD vs Pentium, cache, system memory? Say what is better/faster: P42000/256Mb or P41800/512mb and so on? Thanks in advance! Best regards Albert

Go for the extra memory

If you are going to run problems with around 500.000 you should really go for 512mb memory, if you need to much swapping on the disk you will loose process speed. I have solved combustion problems with CFX4 with only 256mb memory but the number of cells was only around 150.000. I think you can estimate the required memory based on the number of cells for CFX4. About the processor, there has been several post in this forum about that, I believe the conclusion is P4. What kind of budget do you have? A P4 with 512 RD ram and a processor around 2.4 is not really expensive, atleast not compared to software prices.
