What's the difference between structured mesh and unstructured mesh? Thanks.

Hi Andrew,
there are two levels you have to look at, when you want to decide about if a mesh is structured or not. A structured mesh can only be a hexahedron itself, where the parallel edges count the same number of nodes. When you connect these blocks together you get a block-structured mesh, which is still a structured mesh. But the shape is not sufficient for a structured mesh. It is also neccessary to look at the numering of the nodes. A code, which uses a structured mesh, needs special (structured) numbering (CFX-4). A tetrahedron mesh is, in general, unstructured. Nobody would create a structured mesh and then devide the hexas into tets. Did that help you?
