First of all tell me the trick to follow the link! It doesn't work, not from my PC in any case.

I remember in primary school where there was this mathematical trick going around where you would be asked to think of a number, double it, and so on. The way it worked was that you were supposed to lose track of what you were actually doing and not realise that you were always going to get the number 3 as your answer. At the end, the person doing the trick says to you, "OK, the number you have now is the number....3!", which it had to be.

This is similar. For 2 digit numbers (10-99), there are only nine different answers that you can get by carrying out those steps (the only possible answers are 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72 and 81). If you look at the symbols against those numbers you'll see that those numbers all have the same symbol against them. You are supposed to miss this because you the link between the possible answers is not immediately obvious and the symbols are swamped in with all the others. Every time you click "Again" or open the html page, the table is re-initialised and those numbers are given the same symbol.
