Hello All,

So i'm trying to figure out the best software to use to calculate heat transfer coefficients for internal flow in avionics around electronic devices in rockets and what not.

the software that i'm looking at right now is cart3D, wind-US, heat-tk, overflow, and a little bit of icepack, flotherm, and different fluent applications.

the goal is to find something inexpensive that is specific to our line of work. Any ideas??

There are no cheap CFD software. Most are expensive and some are very expensive. This statement is only true if you need answers that are required for real world decisions.

In a few years we may have expert systems that can do the simulation without user guidance. At present you need an experienced operator to achieve consistent, reliable results. This experienced operator is almost always more expensive than any software.

I read your previous post and I think you have an unenviable task for your internship. My suggestion would be to stick to freeware packages if your instructors are adamant on finding "cheap" software. Take OpenFoam, Code Saturne and whatever else you can find and use those for your comparison. Or perhaps there is a vendor of a niche code that can help you with your problem...

Good luck, keep posting.
