How to know if a post-doc position if suitable?

Hi,

I've just passed my oral defense for my phd n I'm looking around for a post-doc position. I saw a job advertisement in the job section of this forum which is closely related to my area of research and interest.

I did a search and found that the university ranking is between 800 to 1000. However I was told before that it's actually the publication of the Prof in your lab that's more important.

He's a young assistant prof and has worked under someone quite well-known in the field after graduation from UCLA. In recent years (2005-2008), he has 5 conference papers and 7 journal papers.

So based on these criteria, how should I decide? What other factors should I consider? I wonder how much experience I can gain and whether it will value add?

Thanks alot!

It depends on what you plan to do in future. If you are interested in academics, the name of the university matters a lot. If you are more focussed towards industry, look for real time projects over fundamental research.

Thanks harishg! In the future, I 'm either going into academics or working as a research fellow in a lab. So maybe that's not too good a place to try ...
