how do i begin with cfd??
 

i am a beginner to this subject. i am in my final year of aerospace engineering and learning this subject out of interest and curiosity. i bought a book on cfd by john d. anderson and am reading it. i am liking the book. but i would like to be guided as to how shall i go ahead in my learning process. i wish i would get the required support.

Starting off with CFD
 

Your best bet is to get hold of a code to play with, there are a number of freeware codes available to download just search on Google. If you are studying your collage will probably have some CFD software so try having a go on that. The best way to start learning CFD is start off with some tutorials with whichever code you are using just to get to know your way around the GUI.

Then you need to go out on your own and try some of your own stuff. I found that analysing empirical or analytical based problems where you can validate your results is good practise before you try designing jet engines. Keeping it simple at first and try to understand what the code is doing what the effects of mesh density, turbulence models-parameters, solver options, boundary conditions and boundary layers to name but few have on your results.

It's important not get bogged down with generating pretty pictures, you need to learn how to investigate CFD solutions to insure what you are generating is realistic and valid. you can easily have CFD results that look realistic but are in fact complete rubbish.
