Final Year Project - CFD on Drag coefficients
Just need some quick advice.
I am a final year mechanical engineering student. For my final year project i have decided to do CFD analysis on a car exterior.
After digging around the forums and general websites for some advice i couldnt find exactly what i need to do etc.
My main aim of the project is to use a CAD model of a car exterior skin and use CFD to calculate drag coefficients. Then i will modify the existing model to observe changes in the drag coefficient.
My question is, do you think that the project maybe too ambitious? I am currently doing a BEng degree and this is my final year project.
Also in terms of using the CAD model of the car exterior skin, would i be able to utilize with CFD, and what format the CAD model will have to be in?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I am quite new to CFD's and CAD itself to be honest, but i am extremely interested and am more then willing to learn.
By telling you that I simply want you to realize that it can be done within the time frame of your studies. As you can see it all depends on what software is available to you, the project can be done on any software, that is true, but it might take you more time on one specific programme than on another. It even can be done on some opensource codes with the same effort.

NB: at UMIST they use code saturne (Free Open source Code) in their CFD classes.
